INCIDENT SUMMARY
AVFD Conducts Low-Visibility Operations Training Recently, members of the AVFD conducted two nights of training involving low-visibility environments. In a fire, smoke cuts visibility to zero and firefighters need to know how to conduct search, rescue, firefighting, and egress while completely unable to see. Fire command staff were also able to practice their ICS skills, while monitoring the interior operations while also running the overall incident. The training was conducted at the Lake Chaffee Fire House (Station 220). To create the low-visibility environment, artificial smoke was used. From this training, firefighters were able to hone critical skills needed in the event of a fire.

Ashford FireFighter Recruits off to Fire School Ashford FireFighter recruits, Shannon Robbins and Nelson Boutot will be members of the Spring 2009 FireFighter I class at the Willimantic Fire School. While there, these new members will learn fire behavior, suppression, safety, HAZMAT and many other complex topics pertaining to Firefighting. The AVFD salutes Shannon and Nelson for their commitment to take up this training.
